A cold easterly wind is causing snowflakes to fall in parts of Dorset including areas of Weymouth and Dorchester.
Local weather forecaster Dorset Snow said: "We have a cold easterly wind in place at the moment and some light flurries have been feeding in from the east.
"The flurries that have developed across central Dorset seem to be by process of convection. There is the further risk of some more widespread snow showers Thursday night into Friday morning, before the cold spell comes to an end early next week.
"A sudden stratospheric warning event has just occurred and these are often responsible for the so called 'beast from the east' events that we see across the UK, so we can’t rule out a much colder spell of weather in late January."
