A BEACH bar in Weymouth which had to be closed due to last weekend’s turbulent weather has reopened.
The Sunset Bar and Restaurant in Bowleaze Cove managed to complete the restoration needed to open back up to the public on Thursday, less than a week after being forced to shut to customers.
Storm Ellis battered the outdoor decking and drinks kiosk of the venue, situated at the Beachside Leisure Centre, behind Fantasy Island Amusement Park.
The damage was caused as the tide came in as far as the bar, raising parts of the seating area floor.
The team have been hard at work to ensure the bar could reopen for the bank holiday weekend.
Chris Simmons, one of the owners of the venue, said: “We are really happy to be open again, especially in time for the bank holiday.
“We considered leaving it down after the damage was caused, since the summer is almost over but we thought we should make the most of it.
“We've been very busy in general this summer, getting up to 200 people some days. When it's busy down here it's absolutely buzzing.”
He added: We tend to busy most days, depending on the weather. We’re keeping our fingers crossed for this weekend, since it is the last bank holiday of the summer. Hopefully the weather holds up and we have another busy weekend.”
