THE flag was raised at a Weymouth training camp as a thank you to the armed forces.
The Armed Forces Day flag was raised at Wyke Regis training camp to mark the beginning of Armed Forces Week 2020.
The raising of the flag is an annual event witnessed by both armed forces' personnel and civilians across the UK.
Landmarc Support Services, which manages the UK Defence Training Estate in partnership with the Defence Infrastructure Organisation (DIO), raised the flag to show support to service personnel across the country.
Parades were cancelled across the country for Armed Forces Week last month to the current restrictions, but people showed their support virtually.
Thousands of military personnel have been on standby since March as part of the COVID Support Force, supporting the NHS and other national services.
Landmarc employees were joined by armed forces personnel and staff from the DIO, at a two-metre distance, to witness the raising of the flag.
Mark Neill, managing director at Landmarc, said: “The efforts from our Armed Forces have been immense and impossible to ignore in the nation’s fight against Covid-19; with our own staff working alongside the military to support the demands of the training estate as it hosts troops from across the country.
“Helping to construct Nightingale hospitals, hosting mobile testing centres and delivering much needed PPE are just some areas in which we simply couldn’t have managed without our armed forces personnel.
“Approximately 25 per cent of our workforce is made up of personnel with a military background; this includes reservists, their families and those who support the cadets – so we understand that showing support for our Armed Forces in this way can provide a much-valued morale boost.”
