THREE homes have been agreed for the former New Inn site at Littlemoor – keeping the front of the pub.
It will be the second new housing development in the area with an adjacent site of nine homes now nearing completion.
The original application for the former pub, from Whiteside Homes, was for the demolition of the pub with three new homes but amendments mean that the front of the building will now be retained.
A terrace of three 3-bed homes is now proposed to the rear with a “bookend” extension and additional front porch proposed to the terrace; with the former function room and skittle alley being removed, as previously agreed.
Weymouth town council raised no objection to the proposals and Weymouth Civic Society said it was pleased the historic building was being retained, keeping the development in character with the neighbouring cottages, although it has warned about the loss of parking spaces.
The original proposals allowed for seven parking spaces on the site with changes now agreed to the design reducing the allocated slots to five.
Some of the neighbours had written to the council asking for the development to resolve their parking problems with the new housing planned for the site. In the past residents had been allowed to park in the pub car park because of the lack of on-street parking in the area, but that facility has been lost to them since building work began.
