A WEYMOUTH man is spreading joy during the coronavirus lockdown by putting his bins out in weird and wonderful ways, and hundreds of people are following suit.

Bill Wilson, 53, lives in Southill and started the Facebook group 'Isolation Bin Outing UK', which now has more than 600 members.

Mr Wilson said he started the group, which features people putting their bins out in fancy dress because "the bins go out more than us."

He said: "I decided to start Isolation Bin Outing UK after my sister in Australia invited me on a site on Facebook over there in which the bins go out more than we do so people dress up with their bins. I thought what a great idea to cheer people up so I started the group and now have more than 600 members worldwide.

"I just wanted to spread a little happiness in these uncertain times if I can make one person happy then my job is done. I have been dressing up every week. So far I have been Superman, a yodelling man and a diver what next you will have to wait and see."

The popularity of the group has surpassed Mr Wilson's expectations and he hopes it can give people something to smile about while they are stuck in their homes during the coronavirus lockdown.

"I think basically as people are stuck in their houses they need a bit of humour in their lives. I thought maybe I would get 100 members but now have 650 and still growing I think it it is good to bring laughter to people in these uncertain times and also people can connect through the page if they are stuck at home, I have had people thanking me for bringing them up because they felt down and I feel if I can help one person up then it's worth it."

With hundreds of people across the country joining in with this new trend, the group has already seen people dressing up as Game of Thrones actor Jason Momoa, Chewbacca from Star Wars and even Hannibal Lecter.
