Firefighters were called to reports of a blaze after a dog accidentally turned a cooker on.
A t-shirt which had been left on the cooking hob then caught fire.
Crews from Weymouth and Portland fire stations attended reports of smoke in the kitchen of the property on Kitchener Road in Weymouth.
They were alerted at 12.16pm yesterday.
A spokesman for Dorset and Wiltshire Fire and Rescue Service said: "Firefighters found the semi-detached house had light smoke logging after a dog accidentally knocked the cooker switch while jumping up, which led to the heat of the hob igniting a t-shirt left on top. Fortunately, the alarm was raised before fire had time to develop, and the stop message came at 12.39pm."
