Dorset is bracing for more heavy downpours and flooding as the Met Office issues further weather warnings in force until Wednesday.

The first yellow warning, meaning be aware, was due to be in place from 4pm yesterday until 10am today.

The Met Office says flooding of a few homes and businesses is likely and bus and train services are likely to be affected.

Forecasters added that 10 to 15 mm of rain could fall in less than two hours in some locations this morning.

The second yellow warning will be in force from midday tomorrow until 3pm on Wednesday, when "persistent" rain is expected.

A Met Office forecaster said: "A broad area of persistent heavy rain is expected to move northeast across the region between mid-Tuesday and early Wednesday, and may be accompanied by gale force winds across the southwest of England for a time.

"Heavy showers will likely follow in the wake of this rain during Wednesday.

"Through the combination of both the rain and following showers 10 to 20 mm of rainfall is expected widely across southern England and parts of southern Wales, with the potential for 40 to 60 mm in some isolated locations, especially across the high ground and locations that see the greatest number of showers."

It comes after heavy rain led to flooding on Friday, causing disruption on the roads and rail lines.

Several roads across the county were completely flooded, with water on the A35 near Winterbourne Abbas being 3ft-deep in places.

A 60-year-old woman had to be rescued by firefighters after she got stuck while trying to drive through a ford near Ansty.
