Weymouth Town Council has objected to plans to build a timber BBQ hut in a resident’s garden.
The town council’s planning committee met to discuss the plans for Harebell Drive.
Cllr Trefor Morgan said: “I would like to object to it. The hut is right at the bottom of someone’s garden. It seems a large thing to hold a barbecue in.”
He added: “It’s rather close to neighbours. I wouldn't want this personally, being a vegetarian, with the smell from the BBQ coming into my house or garden.”
Cllr Ann Weaving said: “I am concerned about the size of it. Is it for private use or commercial?
“It’s awfully large. If it’s commercial are they giving a discount for councillors?”
Cllr David Mannings claimed it would be a ‘fire risk’ between two adjacent buildings.
Cllr Graham Winter said: “It’s retrospective, so they should have done their research first.
“I think it’s too big for the piece of land. The garden is quite small.
“I personally think it’s overdevelopment.”
The planning committee decided to object to the plans due to the scale of the development and the ‘fire risk’. This will be passed to Dorset Council.
