Don't get ripped off in the Christmas gift rush - Dorset's Citizens Advice team has issued advice ahead of the 'Black Friday' sales.
From online scams to fake designer goods, their national consumer advice service dealt with almost half a million complaints last November.
Here are some tips by Citizens Advice Central Dorset:
- Shops aren’t legally required to accept returns if you change your mind
- If you buy online there is a 14-day period when you can claim a refund
- If an item is faulty you may be entitled to a refund within 30 days
- Check that website addresses start 'https' and have a padlock symbol in the taskbar. Be wary of companies that don’t provide an address
- It’s the online seller’s responsibility to make sure the item is delivered
- When borrowing money, check the total amount you will repay
- Never borrow money on the spur of the moment
Ann Evans at Citizens Advice Central Dorset said: “At this time of year many people may feel the pressure to part with their money.
“It is important that anyone thinking about turning to credit or taking out a loan understands the full costs involved.”
