The Sandbanks Ferry Company has confirmed it aims to have the service up and running next month.
Ferry services between Sandbanks and Studland were withdrawn in July due to mechanical problems.
Operators discovered that one of the drive shafts was broken and that a specialist part was not available.
The ferry is currently in a repair facility in Southampton and the part has been ordered from Sweden.
When contacted by the Echo, a statement was released which said: “At present the Sandbanks Ferry Company is still working to the same timescale, with the aim of having the ferry service operational during October.
“Of course, if things progress faster than expected or there are any changes to the timescale, we will ensure that local press are informed immediately.”
Residents and businesses in the area have complained about the adverse effect of the withdrawal of the service during the summer months.
