A MAN who threw a knife at police after he was stopped from entering a nightclub has been jailed for 12 months.
Joshua Mitchell Savory, aged 22, and of Maiden Street in Weymouth, was sentenced at Bournemouth Crown Court after admitting an offence of threatening a person with a blade.
At 11.35pm on Saturday, April 20, officers were called to reports that a man was in possession of a knife outside Actors Nightclub in Maiden Street.
Savory was stopped by security staff from entering the club as officers arrived at the scene. He took the combat-style knife from the waistband of his trousers and held it in the air before walking toward officers in a threatening manner and shouting at them.
Officers drew their Tasers and ordered Savory to drop the knife but he continued to walk toward them before throwing the knife in their direction.
As Savory tried to walk off, he was detained by officers.
Police Constable Sara Knape, of Dorset Police, said: “Officers responding to this incident found themselves confronted by an aggressive offender in possession of a knife and it is fortunate that nobody was seriously injured.
“We will not tolerate the carrying of knives on the streets of Dorset and will take action to ensure that those found in possession of weapons are brought before the courts.”
