I am writing with an idea to improve the disused railway line by B&Q (B3155).
When visitors come to Weymouth they see a dull, run down area that could look beautiful and full of colour. I propose that we convert the area into a wildflower zone.
Over recent years the bee population has declined by 40 per cent. Considering bees pollinate 90 per cent of the worlds produce we should be doing a lot more to help protect them.
A wildflower zone will not only massively support pollinators but be a habitat for other insects and animals, while also helping the biodiversity in Weymouth.
Wildflowers require little maintenance; however the area will have to be cleared out by professionals.
If we convert this piece of land it will improve Weymouth’s presentation and will be a great way to fight back against climate change's effects on habitat loss
I suggest you partner up with the Dorset Wildlife Trust (www.dorsetwildlifetrust.org.uk) to help with the conversion, as they have done many other projects like this around the country.
I really hope you give this some thought as it would make a massive difference to our community and the environment.
Yours faithfully
Amy Tufnail, aged 14 years.
