Weymouth Beach has just been awarded a Blue Flag and a Seaside Award.
The announcement comes as part of environmental charity Keep Britain Tidy's yearly roll of honour.
It has presented 208 awards to England’s very best beaches, including 71 international Blue Flags and 137 Seaside Awards.
A total of 52 beaches achieved both awards, including Weymouth.
According to the charity, the award means that once again Weymouth joins the country’s very best beaches, from popular holiday spots to quiet, more hidden-away spots.
What unites them all is knowing that they are clean, safe and meet the highest environmental standards, as well as the tough international bathing water quality standards.
Celebrating the win, bosses from Weymouth Town Council have thanked the community for helping care for the town's environment.
In particular, they have highlighted the work of local businesses, RNLI lifeguards and the Dorset Waste Partnership in helping to keep the Blue Flag flying.
Jane Biscombe, Weymouth Town Clerk, said:
"Once again, by gaining these awards, Weymouth Beach is shown to be among the best in the country.
"Over a million visitors return to Weymouth every year to enjoy our coastline and the Town Council is committed to making sure that this continues for many years to come.
"The beach is also an important part of Weymouth residents' lives for leisure, rest and recreation, and it’s wonderful to work in an area where the residents are as passionate as we are.
"I am especially thankful to our dedicated beach management team and partners who work together to ensure Weymouth beach is a safe and enjoyable place to be.
"Well done Team Weymouth."
Allison Ogden-Newton, chief executive of Keep Britain Tidy said: “The success of the 156 beaches in reaching the very high standards demanded by both awards is testament to all those who have worked so hard to protect and improve our beaches – from beach managers and volunteers to local people and businesses.
“When you enjoy a trip to a beach flying an international Blue Flag or Seaside Award, you know you are on one of the safest, cleanest and very best in the country.”
