FREE cookery workshops are being served up for people on low incomes.
Run by Volunteer Centre Dorset, with support of Tesco’s Bags of Help initiative, they are aimed at those wanting to learn more about cooking low cost nutritional meals.
Deputy Manager Craig Womble said: "We trialled the idea last year as part of our Community Allotment Project and using produce from the allotment, made some delicious food. The courses are ‘hands on’ and support is provided during the 90 minutes’ sessions. All participants get to eat, or take away what the produce.
"Therefore, if you are a novice cook, want to make better use of you home grown food, or simply want to take part please get in touch."
The courses will start on June 5, and take place every two weeks. Numbers are limited to ten per course and all ingredients are provided.
The organisation would like the opportunity to work with young carers, but say the courses are open to all. The course, held in the Acland Road Day Centre in Dorchester from 6pm-7.30pm is run by chef Tony Gibbons and his team from The Friendly Food Club plus volunteers.
