AFTER an outline plan to develop on the Weymouth Pavilion Peninsula was approved by the planning committee, this is what will happen next.
Council leader Jeff Cant said there is a 'step by step' approach.
He explained: “The starting point is the demolition of the old ferry terminal building. Part of the plan is that this land will be turned into car parking spaces in the first instance.
“This will add a further 30 or 40 spaces to what we have there at the moment.
“The next step is working on a more detailed planning application.
“It is quite possible that this will fall into the lap of the new Dorset Council.”
So far, the principle outline has been established that the peninsula will be a mixed-use space, now the details of what kinds of businesses will be part of the plans and their uses needs to be decided.
Cllr Cant has said that the public will be involved in the consultation process, but added: “The one thing I have discovered the hard way is that you are not going to please everybody all the time.
“We have to be able to strike a balance between developments that will bring in money to pay off the debt of this project and leisure sites that in general do not do very well financially.”
Formal marketing of these initial elements will follow to secure pre-let and/or presales of initial units.
The site will then be prepared and works will begin on the harbour walls.
