PLANS for a ‘care village’ on the former QinetiQ Bincleaves site in Weymouth could be finally set to move forward.
A further formal application for the site has now been submitted to Weymouth and Portland Borough Council by Martin Ross from Fortuneswell Investments Limited which will see the demolition of existing buildings on the site.
The site, off Newtons Road, if approved, will offer a care village with195 Supported Living Units, a 60-bed care home, 34 respite hotel suites, medical support facilities, common rooms, leisure facilities and offices, a commercial restaurant, museum, cafe and new promenade.
The development will also involve improved coastal defence measures and create new gardens and underground parking.
Plans for the six-acre former Ministry of Defence site were first mooted in 2013 with development costs put at £70million two years later.
It was said at the time that, if approved, more than 260 jobs would be created.
However, the plans were amended following two public consultations which saw more than 1000 residents give feedback on the initial designs.
Construction was then expected to begin in March 2016, however, the developers have been delayed due to numerous planning requirements.
Developers New Care Horizons said that there were 30 planning conditions have had to adhere to before they begin to start work which included documenting and photographing the historical buildings on the site.
They added that the project will be funded by a consortium of investors and the company says it has the finance to create three care villages.
Red House Property who are marketing the property on behalf of New Care also added they have had a considerable amount of interest in the site despite construction working not starting yet.
Among the formal consultees of the application will be Dorset County Council, Dorset Police Crime Prevention, the Dorset Waster Partnership, County Highways, the Environment Agency, Marine and Fisheries Agency, Natural England and Wessex Water.
Comments on the application are being invited by September 16th while proposal can be seen on the DorsetForYou website – application WP/18/00570/FUL.
