Almost 100 new homes could be built on an area of land in a north Dorset town.

Housebuilding company Taylor Wimpey has submitted an outline planning application for 90 new homes in Gillingham.

Located on land east of Lodden Lakes, Gillingham Meadows could feature homes of ranging sizes, as well as further affordable housing provision.

Taylor Wimpey has said it will make financial contributions of more than £1.1million to North Dorset District Council (NDDC) towards education, sports and community facilities, as well as a bus stop, footpath, and play areas for existing and new homeowners in the area.

Alex Sciarretta, land and planning director at Taylor Wimpey Southern Counties, said: "This application is an exciting step forward and shows our commitment to delivering high-quality new-build homes in Gillingham.

"We’re hopeful our plans will be given the green light so that we can progress with our exciting plans for Gillingham Meadows and make contributions to NDDC."

The proposed development features a large area of public open space on the eastern side of the site near River Lodden, which the company has said could incorporate a play area.

A decision on the application is likely to be reached in the coming weeks.
