A PARALYMPIAN paid an inspirational visit to a Dorset primary school.

David Hill is a Paralympic swimmer and triathlete and he recently spent the day with pupils and Lulworth and Winfrith Primary School.

The visit helped motivate the children to keep fit but also achieve their dreams.

Mr Hill was born with no left forearm but by the age of three was earning swimming badges and entered his first competition aged eight.

He was the youngest member of Team GB at the 2004 Paralympic Games when he was just 15-years-old as a swimmer.

He has competed at both European and World Championships in swimming.

He competed at the Rio Games in Paralympic Triathlon.

The day started for the children with a fitness circuit, to help get them motivated to keep fit.

Teacher, Rebecca Warren, said: “They had a really good time. They all motivated each other, and the older children helped the younger ones.”

Mr Hill helped the children with the circuit before giving a whole school assembly.

The inspirational speech focused on the fact of no matter what you can do at the time, as long as you keep trying and put your mind to it you can do anything.

He spoke about not just sport but anything, saying that if you put your mind to it, don’t let anything stop you.

Miss Warren said: “It was a fantastic day for all the children. All the children took part, the whole school, they all enjoyed it.

“Some of the children have written letters to him to say how they have been inspired to try their best at whatever they decide to do.

“They want him to come back. It was a really successful day.”

The children paid sponsorship towards the event that will go to Mr Hill and also to the school for equipment.

Mr Hill is a Sky Sports mentor and is keen to inspire the next generation of young people to follow their dreams.
