STRUMMING ukuleles on a summer’s day heralded the 83rd birthday for a Weymouth mother of two.

Maureen Moseley organised her birthday with the Weymouth Ukuleleans on Sunday July 10.

Despite health problems, which mean that she is not able to travel far, Mrs Moseley and the Ukuleleans entertained more than 20 friends on her back lawn in Chickerell Roan.

She moved to Weymouth with her late husband Ted 16 years ago from Forest Gate, London.

In London, she had a shop and work shop for more than 26 years making high class curtains, pelmets and cushions.

Ted helped out with the fixtures and fittings professionally.

Six full time and part time staff were employed at her workshop and shop, two of which travelled from London especially for the occasion.

She and Ted were married for 59 years and he died in 2013.

They had one son who currently lives in Saudi Arabia and a daughter who recently retired from the Metropolitan Police.

She was surprised at the party by her brother John who she had not seen for more than two years.
