A MARRIAGE proposal in the happiest place on earth proved an unexpectedly stressful experience for one Dorset man.
Just over a year later he can breathe easy as Charlotte Foot, travel and weather presenter for BBC Radio Solent, has become Mrs Matt Smith.
Matt, from Dorchester, works as fundraising manager at Weldmar Hospice Care and met Charlotte when she opened the studio door to him for an interview at 7.30am in January 2014.
For Christmas that year he bought tickets to Disneyland Paris and on New Year’s Eve, after as 17 hour journey and a security checkpoint Matt tentatively passed with a ring in his pocket, they arrived on their holiday.
He had secreted the ring in his gloves and stashed them in his pocket but it was a cold evening and Charlotte kept urging him to put his gloves on.
Eventually, at around 9.30pm on New Year’s Eve, he popped the question.
They got married on May 21 at St George’s Church in Dorchester and had their reception at Athelhampton House.
Speaking about their photographer Chris Whitefield, Charlotte said: “Chris was fantastic – such a trooper.
“At one point he offered me his jacket so that I could sit on a bench and it got soaked and broke his phone.”
