A MAN has urged his neighbours to be cautious after being on the receiving end of two break-ins in two days.
John Mayo, aged 60, of Newstead Road, Weymouth, said his shed was broken into. Over the course of two days, thieves took off with two bikes and work supplies after kicking in Mr Mayo’s shed door.
Mr Mayo said: “I feel violated and I feel gutted.
“In this row of terraces we are very friendly and we support each other. There are all age groups here.
“It’s a very close knit sort of group.”
Mr Mayo first noticed his shed had been targeted and items taken included a pale blue Giant Talon bike and a black Saracen Detox bike.
Mr Mayo contacted Dorset Police and a forensic investigator was sent to the scene, along with two officers.
Despite efforts to shore up the area, Mr Mayo said the shed was targeted again the following day.
This time a tub of Stormdry was taken, a masonry tool with a retail value of £116.
Mr Mayo works for Albion Stone on Portland as a stonemason. He’s unable to drive to work due to cataracts and had one of the bikes as part of a work scheme.
He said: “With the bus strikes now, trying to get to work is a logistical nightmare.”
Mr Mayo said he had already been to places where the bikes might be sold off, whilst an eye was also being kept on Facebook.
He said: “I work 66 hours a week just trying to get my money together for my old age. I’m still trying to get the house finished.
“It’s a big expense.”
Mr Mayo said they had made the area more secure since the disappearance of the Stormdry tub but the past few days hadn’t made him feel safe.
He said: “I’m not scared physically – I’m scared to come home and find my home has been wrecked.”
Dorset Police said the property had its shed broken into on two occasions – on Sunday June, 19, and again on Monday, June 20.
