A SPECTACULAR medieval re-enactment was a memorable May Day experience for spectators at Maumbury Rings this bank holiday.
Wessex Invaders and Settlers Empire (WISE), Dorset’s local re-enactment society based in Dorchester wowed audiences with their gallant acts over two days.
The group set up camp at Maumbury Rings on Sunday in medieval tents and trained new recruits ready for the new season.
To thank residents for having them at the rings, the invaders and settlers put on a Merry Medieval May Day.
Visitors to the historic site enjoyed arena combat and living history displays, and watching medieval cooking, spinning and weaving.
The group are preparing for their next event on June 4 and 5 at Templecombe Medieval Pageant in Somerset.
History enthusiasts are being encouraged to contact the group.
They are looking for potters, blacksmiths, beekeepers, costumiers, leather workers, herbalists and more to get involved.
WISE chairperson Stacie Levis can be contacted on 01305 459105.
