A FIRE fighter from Dorset will make his girlfriend his queen after a romantic proposal usually reserved for royalty.
David Foxwell and his girlfriend Kim Mockridge had been seeing each other for over a year when they decided to take a trip to London.
Miss Mockridge, a pharmacy assistant, had booked tickets for the couple to see the musical version of HG Wells’ classic sci-fi novel The War of the Worlds at the Dominion Theatre.
Mr Foxwell said: “We do like to go to London every now and again, when my job allows, and when we do, we like to catch something in the theatre.”
But living up to his crafty name, Mr Foxwell had a trick up his sleeve to treat his girlfriend to an evening she will remember forever.
He said: “Before we went, I cancelled the booking and upgraded the tickets to the royal box without telling her.”
In the royal box, one of the best seats in the house, Mr Foxwell popped the question.
He said: “It sounds really cheesy but I always tell her that she’s my princess, so I asked her to be my queen.
“There were probably a few hundred people in the theatre and everybody below us saw.
“The theatre staff certainly saw, because pretty quickly afterwards they started plying us with champagne.”
The couple, who now live in Dorchester, are hoping to tie the knot early next summer.
They knew each other for years before they started dating.
Mr Foxwell said: “I seems like we’ve been seeing each other for far longer than we have because we knew each other so well before hand.
“I’m absolutely over the moon at the moment – extremely happy about the whole thing.”
Mr Foxwell is from Dorchester originally and Miss Mockridge is comes from Andover but has lived in Dorchester for years.
