SMASH-HIT television show Broadchurch has been shortlisted for three awards in this year’s TV Choice awards.

The award-winning west Dorset-set show has been nominated in three categories in the prestigious competition.

The show, created by Bridport-based writer Chris Chibnall, has been nominated in the Best Drama category, and will go up against Last Tango in Halifax and the Three Musketeers.

It will also be up against Downton Abbey, created by Dorset-based Lord Julian Fellowes.

David Tennant has been nominated in the best actor category for his performance as DI Alec Hardy, and will compete with time-lord Peter Capaldi, James Nesbitt from The Missing and heartthrob Aidan Turner from Poldark.

Olivia Colman has also been shortlisted in the best actress category for her portrayal of DS Ellie Miller, which will see her compete with Jenna Coleman from Doctor Who, Sheridan Smith for her role in Cilla, and Eleanor Tomlinson from Poldark.

It caps off an eventful year for the second-series, which was heavily anticipated but was not as well received as the first series, despite attracting a total of more than 9 million viewers for each episode.

Voting is open to members of the public and will close on July 10, with the winners will being presented with their gongs on September 7.
