The Memory Cafe and Melodies For The Mind are closing for the summer and will re-open in September.
One of several volunteers who help out on Friday mornings said, “We’re seeing very few people each week and it’s not really enough to warrant keeping open. It costs a lot of money to keep this much needed facility going and now the holidays are upon us attendance is rather erratic.”
Carers and those living with dementia can still go along to the sessions held on a Tuesday afternoon at the Salvation Army Hall in Weymouth.
The Stretch and Strengthen exercise classes being held at the Community Hall on Fridays are proving very popular.
The classes are aimed at the more ‘mature’ residents who are finding mobility a problem and are no longer able to take more strenuous exercise.
Most of the exercise are done sitting down but that doesn’t mean you don’t get a full work out to strengthen the core muscles essential if you want to maintain mobility and fitness.
Lessons start at 1.15pm and finish at 2.30. If you’d like to join then please wear loose clothing and comfortable footwear. The cost is currently £2.50 per session which pays for the fully trained instructor and the hire of the hall.
Big4 Littlemoor Lottery Fund is currently subsidising this facility to help keep costs down and the classes are part of the Big4 plans to help improve the fitness and well being of residents.
The sessions are open to all; you do not have to be a Littlemoor resident to join.
