PUPILS from Beaminster School are celebrating after scooping first place awards in the Bridport Rotary Club’s Youth Speaks event.
Pupils from year seven to eleven competed at the event, making speeches which touched on everything, ranging from hobbies and Christmas to childhood obesity and also uniform.
Beaminster’s year seven and eleven teams were the lucky first place winners in their categories.
Beaminster School’s Head of English, Ms Linda Croft, said of the pupils: “The year seven team won the intermediate competition round with a thoughtful and often funny speech on hobbies, despite having to go first and being the youngest speakers in the room.
“In the senior competition Dorrie Hegenbarth, from Beaminster’s year eleven team, spoke quietly but effectively and was ably supported by her lively and engaged team members.”
Winners Alfie Webb, Charlie Backhouse and Jack Wyatt from year seven and Amy Harris, Dorrie Hegenbart, and Emily Chambers from year eleven will now go on to represent the Bridport area in the district semi-final.
