ORGANISERS behind this year’s Weymouth Kite Festival are calling for schools to take part in the event on Weymouth Beach from Saturday, May 2 to Monday, May 4.
Michael McManus, Community Kite Group director, said schools could buy kites for £1.50 each and have a chance of winning a trophy.
He said: “The children buy the kites and a part of that goes to the school.”
Mr McManus said he had already emailed a lot of the schools in the area, with Southill Primary School among those who had confirmed an interest.
Mr McManus said: “It’s just something different and it’s to do with kites and bringing the community together.”
Mr McManus also confirmed there would be a trophy for local kite flyers to compete for.
Schools can register their interest to take part by emailing weymouthkitefestival@ hotmail.com The deadline for applications will be Saturday, February 28.
