TWO friends will be taking on a charity challenge to climb three peaks in aid of a children’s charity.

Jackie Rogerson, 52, and Lee Ager, 39, both from Weymouth, will be supporting WellChild, a charity that looks after sick youngsters and helps to do improvement projects around the home to help those with mobility issues to get around.

They will be taking on the Three Peaks challenge as part of a charity group of around 40 people between July 10-12.

Jackie, a fitness instructor at Budmouth Sports Centre, will be doing the walk in July and Lee will be acting as support crew for the event and for another one in May.

The friends met when Jackie helped to train Lee for last year’s challenge.

The walk will involve climbing Snowden in Wales, Scafell Pike in the Lake District and Ben Nevis in Scotland.

The friends have been doing some training walks and said thanks to Lanehouse Vauxhall Garage for generously donating money and vehicles to use while training.

Jackie said she wasn’t particularly nervous and was more excited to take on a different challenge.

She said WellChild was a fantastic charity and that doing the walk for the charity gave it greater purpose.

She said: “To be able to do something like that you need a range of fitness – you need the stamina, you need to be able to cope with different conditions underfoot.

“Scafell Pike has boulder fields – it’s not for the faint hearted, I believe.”

Jackie said she was excited about the challenge and had been doing lots of practice walks to get ready.

She said: “I just enjoy it. I like being out in the fresh air.”

She added that the group will be doing three peaks in three days, adding: “We climb Scafell Pike overnight.

“It’s an evening hike, so part of it will be in darkness, which again is not for the faint hearted.

“I’ll do some night hike training.”

Last year Lee raised £600 for the charity and said that on the day of the challenge WellChild told him where the money would be going before they started to motivate the team.

His money went to help a little girl in a wheelchair – the charity put decking in her garden so that she could go outside and enjoy the garden easily.
