ICY conditions caused disruption on rail and roads this morning.

Police closed the A35 Upton bypass this morning because of ice.

There were several accidents on the stretch between the Bakers Arms and the A350 fire station roundabout.

The road was shut for that stretch.

There were also reports of cars and a lorry getting into difficulties on the roads around Lytchett, which were also icy, as they diverted around the closure.

A lorry got stuck at Randall's Hill, which was reported as being particularly treacherous. That road was also closed.

A police spokesman said that the accidents were minor, with no serious injuries reported, but the road had been closed for safety reasons. The council was called to grit the road.

It is thought that rain this morning landing on the cold ground caused the problem.

A crash was also reported near Wareham on Bere Road at around 9am, after a Mitsubishi collided with a tree near to the Wareham Forest Touring Park.

A police spokesman said that nobody was thought to have been seriously injured.

In Ringwood, Moortown Lane was blocked both ways because of an accident at Long Lane, again due to ice.

Ice on the train line at Wool meant train journeys on the Weymouth to Waterloo line were disrupted this morning.

Trains are now running between Bournemouth and Weymouth, but delays are expected until 3pm.
