WOOL Community Library has received a huge boost as it begins its third year of community management.

The Friends of Wool Library (FOWL) has received a welcome donation from Howdens Joinery, through its depot on the Sandford Industrial Estate in Wareham, to further improve the library’s facilities.

FOWL identified the need to create a more attractive, usable working environment for the many library volunteers to provide a more effective service for the increased number of users of the library.

A small dedicated team from the volunteers sketched out plans for the better presentation and storage of books and DVDs ordered and reserved for users, for the storage of information manuals and other reference material and for displaying books donated by authors and others solely for Wool Community Library use.

Howdens’ Wareham depot manager Scott King said: “When I saw the sketch-plans and the enthusiasm of the volunteers it was a no-brainer.

“This was obviously an area where Howdens could support an organisation which was already providing a much-needed and much-appreciated service in our neck of the woods. We were very glad to help.”

A small plaque recognising Howden’s generosity now sits alongside the shelving units it helped to provide.

Chairman of FOWL David Smith said: “This was a well-planned, well-executed project.

“The installation team and many other volunteers who were involved, worked tirelessly under the leadership of our volunteer co-ordinator Christine Reber to ensure that everything was completed in the 48 hours the library is closed over the weekend.”
