A RECYCLING scheme in Weymouth is appealing for any white goods so it can help families in crisis.

The not-for-profit household items re-use scheme Twice as Nice was launched by Synergy Housing last year and is run by volunteers.

It was officially opened in April by Martin Roberts, presenter of the TV property show Homes Under the Hammer.

Mr Roberts praised the project when he attended, saying: “It provides a really important service and enables people who might not otherwise be able to afford to furnish their homes to do so.”

Twice as Nice is now appealing for items such as fridges, freezers, cookers, washing machines, tumble dryers and microwaves which it can make available at its store at Albany Road on the Granby Industrial Estate.

Twice as Nice project manager Laura Kavanagh said: “We work with a number of partner agencies who assist people in really difficult circumstances, and often they don’t have items like washing machines, fridges or electric cookers.

“We’re in urgent need of any items of white goods that people no longer need. We can take anything apart from gas cookers and collect any items in the Weymouth and Portland area free of charge.

“And we can also collect from businesses – all they’ll need to do is agree that the items they’re donating are going to be re-used.

“We only ask that you give any items you want to donate a clean first.

“They don’t even have to be in perfect working order – we have a white goods technician who can carry out any repairs and refurbish items in our workshop if necessary.”

The Twice as Nice store in Weymouth is open, Monday to Friday, 9.30am – 4pm. The store is open to all and people on low incomes can purchase items at a reduced rate.
