Churchgoers in Blackdown will be celebrating the 50th anniversary of the resurrection of their church on Saturday.
Blackdown Church, near Broadwindsor, was destroyed by fire on December 16, 1961.
Parishioner Helen Doble said: “The fire was believed to have been caused by the pot bellied boiler which had been lit on the Saturday ready for morning service.
“After much fundraising, the church was rebuilt, holding its rededication service on November 29, 1964.”
To celebrate the church will be hosting a celebration thanksgiving service led by Bishop Graham Kings at 3pm. There is also an exhibition on the church and village history at Blackdown village hall from 11am to 7pm.
Anyone with any information or photographs of the church and village, or anyone who wishes to book a lunch, please contact the churchwarden Phillip Hardwill 01460 30661/30517.
