A POPULAR bar and restaurant in Weymouth will host a curry night and quiz to raise money for a charity dedicated to supporting ex-servicemen and women.
Rendezvous will host the event in aid of the ABF The Soldier’s Charity on Thursday next week as part of the bar’s drive to raise money for charity.
The event will cost £9.95 entry, but that will include a curry, a naan bread, a drink and entry into the pub quiz, and £3 from each ticket purchased will be donated directly to the charity.
Along with the curry and quiz, there will also be numerous donation pots on the bar for people to contribute to and there will also be merchandise sold during the event.
Kaiko McKay has organised the event and said she was inspired to do it as she knows people who have served the country in the war in Afghanistan and Iraq.
Ms McKay said: “We had something come through the post from ABF and I thought it would be really good to host a curry and a quiz night, because everyone loves curry and quizzes so hopefully we will raise a lot of money.
“The charity does a lot of great work in supporting soldiers and soldiers’ families if they get injured in combat and I think the work they do is really good.
“They make adjustments to the homes if they are needed, and they pay for the adjustments as well.”
Ms McKay said she was particularly impressed with the attitude of people who had served in the army that she had met in Weymouth.
She added: “I do know a few people in the army and I know of a few people who have family members or partners in the army.
“Before the Olympics, I met someone who had served in Afghanistan and Iraq and had his arm amputated after being injured in the war.
“He was down here to train for sailing as he wanted to compete in the Paralympics. He was brilliant, so inspirational.
“He just had the attitude of this has happened to me but I’m not going to let it ruin my life and I’m going to make the best of what I’ve got.
“Everyone who serves in the army is a hero and hopefully we can raise a lot of money for them.”
