GREEN-fingered families will enjoy taking a night-time stroll around Abbotsbury Subtropical Gardens this holiday to see their annual illuminations, which run from 5pm to 8.30pm every day until tomorrow.

This year’s route also boasts new, extended sections including the ‘Long Walk’, the Pavilion and the lily ponds.

Today is the last day children can don fancy dress for the Halloween Fun Evenings and haunt the gardens, when there will also be a spectacular laser rave, a scary scars workshop, a creepy-crawly tent, spooky characters and free face-painting.

General manager John Houston said of this year’s illuminations: “Seeing our magnificent trees in their autumn foliage bathed in the night-lights and the glow of candles is always a wonderful sight. We have extended the walk this year to take in even more of the gardens, which have a completely different atmosphere after dark. What better place to have Halloween fun in the midst of the light show, with the trees and plants casting their scary shadows?”

Visitors are advised to wear sensible footwear and bring a torch. The gardens are suitable for wheelchairs.
