A WEYMOUTH pub is raising a pint of real ale in celebration after being named in the 2015 CAMRA Good Beer Guide.
The Wyke Smugglers on Portland Road has been recognised as one of the best cask ale outlets in the Wessex and Channel Islands region.
Every year the Campaign For Real Ale (CAMRA) updates its Good Beer Guide and features pubs that it believes serve the best real ale across the United Kingdom.
Rhos Thompson, who took over as landlord of the Punch Taverns pub last year, said: “It’s quite an amazing honour. I’m absolutely thrilled.”
He added: “It’s a fantastic achievement for us with it only being our first year of trading, it’s brilliant. It’s the second award, after the Cask Marque award, that we have received in this short space of time so it’s been an incredible year. I would like to thank all of the customers that voted for us.”
CAMRA members vote for the awards and Mr Thompson thanked two of their CAMRA supporters in particular – Tony Eggerton and Alex Bardwell.
Punch Taverns partnership development manager Kevin Day-McDonnell said: “We at Punch are delighted to see that the hard work Rhos and the team have put in to developing the Wyke Smugglers’ reputation for real ale has been recognised in this way.
“They have been proactive in selecting from the wide range of ales available to them and have been passionate about serving their ales in excellent condition.”
