Plans to increase the size of a slurry lagoon at Crossways have been withdrawn.
Local residents had voiced their objections to a planning application submitted to West Dorset District Council for a new slurry lagoon at Summer Farm in Warmwell Road, citing fears over the smell and impact on neighbouring villagers.
More than 150 people attended a meeting of Crossways Parish Council to discuss the slurry lagoon proposals.
Parish council chairman Andrew Brewer said that since the meeting he had received notification from West Dorset District Council to state that the application had been withdrawn and he suggested that the amount of local opposition may well have played a part.
Cllr Brewer said: “This does not necessarily mean that the scheme has been dropped but I do believe that it was down to the groundswell of public concern and opposition.”
