Dementia is something that can affect anybody and many of us may know of someone who has been diagnosed with, or is caring for a person with the illness.

Dementia is a term used to describe a set of symptoms that may include memory loss, difficulties with thinking, problem solving or language and is caused when the brain is damaged by diseases such as Alzheimer’s or a series of strokes.

The Big4 Littlemoor lottery committee, in their commitment to improve the well-being of all Littlemoor residents, is particularly keen to make our community a dementia friendly area and have organized a talk on the subject.

It isn’t perhaps the happiest of topics but the more we understand about dementia the more we can do to help those trying to cope with the impact it has on our lives. At 6pm on Wednesday 23rd July at the library Jo Bazalgett, a spokesperson for the Alzheimer’s Society, will be discussing the symptoms, diagnosis, and treatment, on how to cope with living with dementia, what resources, support and advice are available, and how we can all help create a community where people with dementia can live well.

Bincombe Court opens its doors to anyone who fancies a game of bingo on a Friday afternoon. Sessions begin at 3pm. The cost is £1 per game, prizes are supermarket vouchers and refreshments are available. There is also a raffle and the session ends at 5pm.
