Protecting us from chaos As the recent chaotic weather across the South West has become increasingly dangerous, and in Dorset flooding has caused havoc for transport and people’s property surely some serious action needs to be taken.
Both the Prime Minister and the Met Office have linked the recent weather to ongoing climate change, so surely now is the time for a united front in ensuring these events don’t become commonplace.
Firstly, we need tighter controls to be set out by local authorities in order to stop excessive construction on our flood plains and fragile coastlines.
Secondly, increased investment (and not job cuts) in our Environment Agency, so we can begin to better manage and defend our coasts and rivers. Finally, we need support for all forms of local renewable energy generation.
Only then can we begin tackling climate change and protecting ourselves and future generations from climate chaos.
