Suppose that man-made climate change is not a fact, because only 95% or more of climate scientists completely believe it (based on the evidence). If so should we simply ignore the warnings and continue to burn oil and gas.
Could it be that the suppliers and profiteers from the supply of fossil fuels are correct that climate change is a green myth, and should we listen to them rather than the informed independent scientists?
Or are people waking up? Are they are waking up to the fact that scientific uncertainty should be cause for caution, not for plunging ahead recklessly. When flying blind, if you are not sure whether that shape looming just ahead is a cloud or a mountain, slow down.
A stitch in time saves nine. If you aren’t sure what you’re doing, you should proceed slowly and carefully, or perhaps not at all. Better safe than sorry.
That is the philosophy of precaution.
Could it be that the floods and freak weather are not a warning to us, but a chance coincidence?
Could it be that the opportunity to embrace change and ensure that the planet is a place for life to thrive should be ignored?
An environmentally sensible future offers opportunities for us all, whereas the alternative offers only regret in the future.
We must make our choice.
