LYME Regis Post Office will stay until at least the New Year – but its long-term future still remains unclear.

The post office has faced the threat of closure in recent months, after current subpostmaster Les Gilbert said he was considering leaving the branch in Broad Street because of the huge losses the business was making.

But now Mr Gilbert has decided to put his wish to move on from the Lyme Regis branch on hold until at least January, due to the busy Christmas season and the impending changes in the national transformation programme for post offices.

The future of the post office after January still remains unclear.

Mr Gilbert said he wants to see how changes affect the operation of the Lyme Regis post office branch.
