A GROUP of daring Portland anglers have bared almost all for a good cause.
Portland Angling Club members have dared to bare for a calendar in aid of the National Coastwatch Institution at Portland Bill.
They hope the cheeky, risqué calendar will help to raise around £4,000 for the station run by volunteers and funded by donations.
‘Mr April’ Maurice Pickford is the brains behind the operation.
He said: “It’s great. It’s almost like the old Carry On films – a bit of cheeky slapstick humour.
“People are just doing it for a laugh.”
He added that the men and women were courageous and added a huge thank you to all the models and everyone that had helped to make the calendar.
NCI Portland Bill was a great cause Mr Pickford said, and a real asset to the area. He added: “It helps the community.”
The idea for the calendar came up when the anglers were thinking of ways they could help the organisation.
Mr Pickford said: “I was thinking of something to do for Coastwatch and we had a few drinks and the idea of a calendar came up and a couple of people said they would give it a go.”
The calendar was launched with a special event at the Conservative Club in Easton – there were bands, an auction and of course, the calendars on sale.
Members of Coastwatch turned up and gave a speech thanking the anglers for all they had done.
The calendar is on sale now priced at £8 each and is available from Pete’s Hardware Store, 47 Straits, Ian Burden the Butcher and RT Cards in Easton, Chesil Bait ’N’ Tackle, Weymouth and at Portland Marina People can also email Maurice at mpickford@hotmail.co.uk to order a calendar.
