• Sutton Poyntz Society Coffee Morning in the Mission Hall attracted an even bigger crowd than usual. Perhaps having to stay in during the recent bad weather made people eager to get out on what was quite a pleasant morning. Everyone had been invited to bring along their favourite book and the reason for their choice, which proved very interesting. I should be able to take part next year, by which time I should have finished a book! As always the good conversation was punctuated by pauses for coffee and delicious homemade cake and the ladies in the kitchen were kept busy. The next coffee morning is on Friday 6 December between 10.30am and noon, when the charity Waves will be demonstrating the good work they do.
• Betty Hennessey tells me that the Weymouth East Scouts and Guides Autumn Jumble Sale raised just over £500, which is a marvellous total. Betty would like to thank all those who helped make the event such a success, those who donated items for sale and, of course, those who turned up to buy things. Betty herself deserves heartfelt thanks for all her continued hard work on behalf of the local youngsters.
• Congratulations to the Spar Shop on Preston Road on their award as the Best Produce Retailer in the South West. The range and number of our local shops has improved greatly over the years, and Barbara and Mike have always been in the forefront of this change and are a great asset to the local area. Well done.
• The October draw of the St Andrew’s School 200 club took place in Mrs Mitchell/Mrs Richards Year 1 class. Oscar Smith drew the £50 prize for Toni Brett, Lily Halsall Crenell helped Susan Boid to £30 and Tom Gould selected Carole Collins for the £15 prize. The new year for the club starts in now, so this is great time to join in time to join in this if you would like to help. All the money raised goes towards facilities for the children, so contact Helen Webb at helencwebb@fsmail.net.
