• Yvonne Connolly reports that Bosworth House Care Home on Southdown Road held a special party to celebrate the 25th anniversary of their opening back in 1988. A host of family, friends and residents enjoyed a lovely buffet prepared by deputy manager Sally-Ann Radwell along with a few drinks and entertainment from ‘The Flying Dutchman’. The party was also an opportunity to celebrate with one of their senior carers, Sue Love, who has been with Bosworth House for 20 years of its 25 years, quite an achievement. The pictures show Mrs. Meryl Hodder and Mrs. Christine Wells, two of the owners of Bosworth House, with the anniversary cake and Sue Love with her certificate, flowers and champagne to mark her 20 years service.
• Nurse Mary Fry has retired from the Preston Road Practice after many years dedicated to caring for those in and around Preston and Sutton Poyntz. Known to everyone as Nurse Mary, her medical proficiency, wise counsel, and calming manner helped so many patients, and she will be much missed. We wish her well in her retirement.
• The monthly Sutton Poyntz Society Coffee Mornings have restarted for the winter months in the Mission Hall. These well attended functions take place on the first Friday in the month, and in addition to the opportunity to catch up with friends old and new over a cup of coffee and delicious homemade cake, they usually include a presentation on a matter of interest to the village. So for a warm welcome do drop in between 10.30am and noon for the next one on Friday, 1 November.
• Recently I mentioned that the Council had been unusually proactive in cutting back the hedge in the walkway between Wyke Oliver Road and Chalbury Close. However I am reliably informed that this improvement is down to the adjacent householders, who have taken on responsibility for the work from the Council who carried it out previously.
