AN ASSISTANT scout leader picked up the highest award available in the organisation.
Phil ‘Nibby’ Collier, of First Mosterton Scout Group, was presented with the Queen’s Scout Award by County Commissioner Mike Parkes at the group’s summer gathering.
Phil, who began volunteering as a young leader when he was an explorer scout, has also completed the Gold Duke of Edinburgh’s Award.
More than 200 scouts and their parents attended the summer gathering to have a go at activities such as archery, shooting, African drumming, prusiking – a type of rope climbing – and other outdoor games. There was also a display of items the youngsters had made and a film showing some of the group’s activities and adventures over the last year.
