There are a lot of adverts on TV for PayDay loans. These may be convenient if you’re suddenly facing a money crisis when the car breaks down or you need a new washing machine but they charge very high interest rates and people find themselves struggling to make repayments and end up spiraling into debt.
There is a solution close to hand. The First Dorset Credit Union encourages people to make small savings every week for those unexpected drains on your finances. The Credit Union has several savings accounts available, including a Christmas club where the money is paid out at the end of November. Small loans can also be arranged for members at very low rates, lower than most banks and certainly much lower than Pay Day loans. For further details go to their website at www.firstdorsetcreditunion.co.uk
Currently the Credit Union is in St Francis church every Saturday between 10am and 11am but on 26th September it will also be opening in the library every Thursday morning between 10am and 11am so that more people can take advantage of this.

Littlemoor’s creative writing group, Off The Cuff now has five published authors among its members. The latest to have her book in print is Kathy Sharp with her very funny novel, Isle Of Larus, a comic fantasy that has been described as ‘thoroughly entertaining’ and ‘captivating’. The book is available as an ebook or you can buy the paperback from Amazon.
Soon to be published is Laura James who has recently signed for Choc-Lit Lite with her romantic novel Truth Or Dare. Laura has also had a short story included in an ebook anthology.
If you think there’s a book in you why not join the writing group? Every style and level of writing welcome. We write for fun as it’s the best way to grow in confidence and encourage each of us to write that book and get it published!
Sessions run from 10am til 11.45 every Monday morning (except bank holidays) at Littlemoor library. The cost is £1 a session which covers refreshments. Pen and paper is all you’ll need and a little imagination!
