Its been a busy summer and there's more to come, so here's a round up of what has happened and what is about to happen in the Park Area.
The Park Community Quiz was yet another successful event enjoyed by the 11 teams (58 residents)who took part in the quiz. A huge thanks goes out to everyone who helped with it, and to John for organising the festivities and Cynthia who took up her role as Quiz Mistress, doling out brain teasers left, right and centre. This time the competition was very close with only 3 points separating the top 3 teams. The prizes were evntually shared between "Demob Happy" who were victorious winners , "Bowlers Plus 2" as Runners Up with "Odds and Sods" being awarded the Mystery Prize.
The next quiz is on Saturday July 20 at 7pm, usual rules and regulations apply. Over a months warning to warm up the grey matter and get it fired up and ready for quick fire action.
Lets Make It Workshops
There are two workshops planned to make and prepare crafts for sale on the Esplanade Stall on Thursday August 11 2013. Everyone is welcome, please feel free to drop in for the morning or afternoon sessions, or even come along in the morning and stay all day! If you have decorative paper scissors (eg zig zag cut) it is recommended that you bring yours with you.
"Lets Make It" is a voluntary group and they really need all of our help to raise funds to make sure the workshops and projects can continue, so with this in mind, they are asking all of us if we can help with anything shown below, they would be really grateful, and as it goes to benefit the whole area, its a win/win situation and a bit of a no brainer!

A huge thanks go out to everyone who has already been knitting beautiful flowers at home for us to sell at the stall. Please could you bring them along to either of the workshops above, or ask your "Lets Make It" contact to pick them up from you , before July 13, as that will be our last chance to prepare and price up all the goods for sale.
Committee members Marye and Joan are kindly organising the tombola. If you have any suitable items ( only new , unused items and no food or drink) to donate for the tombola, could you please drop them off at the Park Centre between 10am and 12 Noon on Thursdays, or at the workshops listed above.

Table Tennis is now available on Wednesday evenings from 7 until 8pm as well as Thursdays from 12.00 until 14.00. You only have to bring along yourself all equipment is provided. It doesnt matter what level of expertise you do or dont possess, everybody is welcome.
Last years Gardens in the Park 2012 competition was quite closely contested with so many certificates being awarded that it would be only fair to remind residents that at some point during the summer there will be a group of judges wandering around with a clipboard making notes. The full list of winners is available on the Park Community Centre News page of the website - www.theparkarea.co.uk .
It is clear to see that this year, extra steps have been taken by many to beautify their own small castle grounds, despite the weather being so poor for those with green fingers. Awards are made by Road/Street and split into Residential and Business class with additional Community class where applicable.
So if you cant knit a flower, sew a pin on a flower, or price a flower, maybe you could grow one instead and still make your mark on the area.
Until next time - happy sowing/sewing
