• Councillor David Mannings reports that he attended a First Bus Users Committee meeting recently, having asked for an item to be put on the agenda referring to the bus service – or rather the lack of it - down Oakbury Drive. David suggested to Mark Williams, the local First manager and the two management representatives from Portsmouth that perhaps one bus an hour, on the hour, could run down Oakbury Drive. A response to his suggestion was promised at the next Users forum meeting on Wednesday 10 July.
• On the subject of the Number 4 Service, there’s not much sign of work starting to erect a bus shelter at the K5 stop to which we have been banished. A little bird did tell me that an electric cable under the ground in that area has caused delay, but surely that cannot be an insurmountable problem? I’ll try and find out the new start date and let you know, but don’t hold your breath!
• Anna contacted me to say that she is starting a Majorette Troupe at Preston Village Hall. The classes are for children 5 years and over, starting at 10am until noon every Saturday and the first is on Saturday 8 June. The teacher has over 30 years experience and is fully CRB cleared, and the cost is £3 per class. For more information Anna can be contacted at odysseymajorettes@outlook.com or through their website odysseymajorettes.weebly.com
• The next Team walk will start at 2pm on Saturday 8 June from Lorton Meadows. It will be three miles long and you should take a picnic tea. I used to jog around that area – alas no longer – and it has marvellous views and some very interesting wild life if you are quiet enough, so do go along if you can for a great walk in good company. Susan (816508) has more details if you need them.
• The May draw of the St Andrew’s School 200 club took place in Mrs Crocker's year 5 class with more and bigger prizes! Tia Chaloner drew the £150 prize for Yvonne Eaton, Maisie Fowler helped April Saunders to £75, Sophie Reece selected Jenny Posta for the £50 prize and there was even another £20 prize drawn by Ethan Bingham, won by Mrs Bennett. All the money from the monthly draw goes towards facilities for the children, so contact Helen Webb at helencwebb@fsmail.net if you would like to help.
