YESTERDAY I was invited along to Radipole Primary School in Weymouth where there are two new exciting projects underway.
A brand new allotment is being created, where every year group will have their own plot to grow fruit and vegetables, and there is also a garden development project, where parts of the school grounds are being given a new lease of life.
I discovered that pupils will be sowing some crops like carrots, and lettuce, as well as raising some plants as seedlings.
These will be harvested at the end of the summer term or in the autumn, and the youngsters may then set up a school shop to sell their produce. I’m looking forward to that!
Qualified gardener Jo Milan, of Green and Pinks garden advice and design, is helping the pupils with the projects.
I also did my best to help the youngsters with digging and building a mini-greenhouse, which seemed to have lots of pieces.
The projects have been backed by donations from Lee Mitchell, managing director at Value House, who supplied seeds, compost and vouchers for gardening supplies, plus Luke and Jason House, of Buildrite Weymouth, who supplied timber.
