EXTRAS were delighted after seeing themselves on screen in front of nine million viewers on prime time TV in Broadchurch.

The West Bay based drama – about the death of a young boy in a seaside town – has gripped the community with tourists pouring in as well as charity themed events.

Pippa Horton, who is a shift supervisor at the Ellipse Caffe in West Bay was among those chosen to appear as well as youngsters from a theatre school.

Pippa, 20, of Beaminster, appeared in a scene shot at the Ellipse with DS Ellie Miller, played by Olivia Colman her husband Joe and children in the second episode.

Pippa served drinks, appeared in the background and manned the till.

She said: “It was quite strange seeing myself on screen. It was a nice experience and good to be involved.”

She added: “After watching the first episode, I guessed that I would be in the second or third episode.

“All of my friends texted me just minutes after I was on saying that they had seen me.”

The scene Pippa is in – when another parent asks DS Miller what was happening with the inquiry – was due to be shot in the West Bay play area but was moved inside because of poor weather.

Extras have appeared in the show over the past seven weeks as the thrillers builds up to its finale next Monday.

There were more twists in last night’s episode as DS Ellie Miller delved deeper into what happened at the clifftop hut while police continued to focus on the menacing Susan Wright.

Conor Knight and pal Matthew Dennett were among the lucky youngsters to be chosen to appear in scenes in the hit drama.

They were filmed playing in the background to a scene when DI Alec Hardy and DS Ellie Miller look for Susan Wright.

Conor, 11, said: “It was really good to see myself on TV.

“All of my friends at school and the teacher the next day said that they had seen me.

“It was exciting when I found out that I was going to be on that episode.”

He added: “David Tennant and all of the stars were really friendly and nice.”

Conor, who goes to Broadstone Middle School, and Matthew were among 11 youngsters from the Poole Academy of Dance who took part. Conor lives with dad Craig, mum Lisa and sister Keira in Broadstone.

The other youngsters involved were Kaitlyn Timbrell-Smith, Cerys Inkpen, Emma Corbin, Izzy Fry, Giles Surridge, Sydney Morton, Sarah Naptin, Pietra Overton and Max French.

ALL will be revealed in the final episode of Broadchurch next Monday night.

The cast and writer Chris Chibnall, above, have remained resolutely tight-lipped about the identity of the killer or killers.

Actor Joe Sims, who plays plumber Nigel Carter, has already told how more twists and turns are in store.
