Spring is finally coming round the bend, or so the rumour goes! And with Springs arrival comes that great old tradition of Spring Cleaning which is also called “Decluttering” in contemporary speak.
As in the previous year, there will be a “Give & Take Day" at the Park Community Centre, Chelmsford Street, Weymouth, on Saturday April 13 2013.
The concept is quite simple – you bring along anything that you no longer want (there are a few exceptions, video tapes, electrical items, pcs, food products) and you can then take away anything you would like. Last year I took down absolute loads, and it went walking out the door before I had a chance to miss it.
The doors are open for the “Give” items to be deposited from 9.30 on Saturday April 13 and you can “Take” items from 10.00 on the same day. The event closes at 12/12.30, so don't be late, experience has shown me that the early bird certainly does get the worm, or whatever piece of decorative art/throw/ blanket/crockery/ garden equipment etc. So start casting your eye around your home palace. See all those things that you have crammed in a cupboard that you might need one day? Perhaps that day never came (in the past 5/10/15 years), could you use that space for something else? Pick it up, sort it out, and drop it down the Park Community Centre.
Alongside this, W&P Borough Council, Waste Management Department will be present to hand out the GullProof Bags that many of our community have been succesfully trialling for the past year. The GullProof Bag scheme is now being extended to include the Town Centre and the remaining parts of the Park District. So - an added reason to come on down to the community centre. If you had a bag but for whatever reason it is no longer available to you, then please do come on down and collect a replacement. I know speaking personally I would rather we all used them as the amount of seagull black bag trashing has gone down considerably.
So no need to put out your unwanted items with your rubbish, and a way to keep the Gulls out of your Bags, a double whammy! If we could only persuade the Gulls to dispose of the dog waste, I would be overjoyed!
